Area of trapeziums

Check out the updated revision resources for GCSE Maths: Area of trapeziums, with step-by-step slideshows, quizzes, practice exam questions, and more!

The area of a can be calculated using the formula:

Trapezium with height (h), top length (a) and base (b) labelled

\(\text{area of a trapezium} = \frac{1}{2}(a + b) \times h\)

Example

Calculate the area of the trapezium:

Trapezium with height (5cm), top height (4cm) and base (10cm) labelled

area = \(\frac{1}{2}(4 + 10) \times 5 = 35~\text{cm}^2\)
