Fin and Snoot count meebs by putting them into equal rows and using multiplication.
NARRATOR: Hello Snoot.
SNOOT: (ALIEN LANGUAGE)
NARRATOR: What have you got there?
SNOOT: (ALIEN LANGUAGE)
NARRATOR: Oh, meebs… and not just any meebs, but jumping meebs!
That's quite a collection.
How many are there altogether?
SNOOT: (ALIEN LANGUAGE)
NARRATOR: Thank you Snoot.
Having them lined up like this makes them easier to count.
You've got four rows of meebs, with 3 meebs in each row.
So all together that's 4 times 3, which equals 12.
FIN: (ALIEN LANGUAGE)
NARRATOR: Hello Fin, do you want to count them another way?
FIN: (ALIEN LANGUAGE)
NARRATOR: I thought you might…
From where you're standing you can see 3 rows of meebs, with 4 meebs in each row.
So you prefer to multiply 3 times 4, which equals…
12 as well.
SNOOT: (ALIEN LANGUAGE)
NARRATOR: Of course Snoot, it's exactly the same as what you had.
From where you're standing, you can see 4 rows of 3, but from where Fin’s standing, there are 3 rows of 4.
But it doesn’t matter if you multiply 3 times 4 or 4 times 3.
The answer will always be the same.
NARRATOR: Now then, let’s see what these meebs can do.
SNOOT: (ALIEN LANGUAGE)
Oh dear…
Meeb down.
What is an array?
As array is a group of things arranged into rows and columns.
You can use arrays to help you multiply two numbers.
One number will be the number of rows.
The other number will be the number of columns.
So 2 x 3 would make 2 rows and 3 columns.
Top tip
It doesn't matter which way round the array is. 2 rows of 3 is the same as 3 rows of 2.
Use whichever way works better for you.
