He may live in Bearwood but Alex Lanyon has fans and supporters all over the country.

Alex - forming a band

Dozens of text messages flooded into the studios when Alex played live on BBC WM Introducing. Fans from as far away as Newcastle were listening to Alex's funky pop tunes via the BBC WM Website.

Alex Lanyon's new EP 'The Edge of Me' is available now and he has been gigging extensively around Birmingham and the Black Country to promote it and is currently accepting bookings.

The solo pop star is also in the process of putting together and band but is an accomplished musician in his own right.

Playing live

Speaking live on BBC WM Introducing, Alex explained the inspiration behind some of his songs.

On his opening number 'Posture' Alex said:

"I was reading the book Auschwitz - it's a collection of dossiers from the war. I was intrigued by this lady who'd been taken into a concentration camp when she was younger.

"All she wanted when she came out was to see a lot more gratitude than she ever had and it's just a song basically propping up gratitude and everything that it's worth. If I've got inspiration for a song I've got to be telling a good story and then the music follows."
