From The Look Out car park make your way across the crossing with The Royal County of Berkshire Health & Racquets Club in front of you. Turn right on the footpath following the Ramblers Route sign. Pass the Coral Reef leisure centre on your left and cross the busy A322 using the footbridge. | | This walk is a great opportunity to appreciate the nature around us. |
Make your way to the roundabout and turn left into New Forest Ride. Continue along New Forest Ride to the roundabout with Bowland Drive on the left. Immediately after the roundabout, look out for a Ramblers Route sign on the right. Cross the road and follow this path through the bushes at the edge of the road and through a gate passing a sign for Swinley Park. As soon as you pass through the gate, turn left onto the tarmac path heading North East. When you reach the point where four tracks meet and cross, turn sharp left following the Ramblers Route sign. | | The path can be tricky to follow. |
Continue straight ahead following the green signs 'Permitted Path' in a Northerly direction. Continue to follow the green sign as the path veers off to the right. Then turn sharply right, following the Ramblers Route and Permitted Path sign. Leave Swinley Park through the gate, and turn left onto the road. This road has no path and is busy so take care. Follow the road over the railway bridge and after the bridge, look out for the Ramblers Route sign on the right, opposite Whitmore Bog Cottages. Take this path, crossing the stile and following the path right. This path gets increasingly difficult to follow but continue straight ahead with the back of Crowthorne building and fencing supplies on the left and Englemere Pond on the right. | | The picturesque Englemere Pond. |
When you can see the pond clearly, turn left leaving the nature reserve through a wooden gate. Turn right onto Blackmoor Stream. Just after crossing Gainsborough Drive, turn left into Blythewood Lane following the Ramblers Route sign. Continue following the path ahead - not turning left where it says no public right of way. When the path ends, turn left onto the tarmac road following the Byway and Ramblers Route sign. When you reach Burleigh Lane, turn right, following the Byway sign. | | The leaves were just turning as we walked this walk at the end of 2004. |
Follow the path going sharp right following the Byway sign and walking along the wide grass verge (Kennel Avenue). Look straight ahead to the racecourse. Cross the road and head into the racecourse following the public footpath sign. The racecourse is currently being redeveloped but the footpath was still open when we walked it in November 2004. It may be diverted but is well sign-posted. You need to get across the course, emerging near the golf club at the opposite side and following the pedestrian path. | | Ascot racecourse is currently being re-developed. |
When you reach the road, turn right and walk away from the racecourse and look for the 30mph road sign level with the footpath on the left. This is the finishing point of the walk. You've completed Part Thirteen of the Berkshire Way Well Done! Berkshire Way Part Fourteen |
