Working hard

Radio Underdog

Have you ever wondered how you can get your voice heard?
Now is your chance, Slough Young People's Centre are running a one-week live radio show which gives youngsters a chance to get their voices heard...

Media has always fascinated many people and as it is growing so quickly, it is becoming more competitive.

This could be the reason why there are so many courses being introduced in it.

Slough Young People's Centre (SYPC) are just one of the many places that has decided to introduce courses in media.

During the summer SYPC are running a radio show called Radio Underdog.

In this course young people who are interested in radio are given a chance to go live on air from 25th August to 31st August.

The people on the course will interview local bands as well as holding their own request show.

On Radio Underdog's second day on air, I visited the SYPC to see how the people taking part on the course were getting on.

When I was at SYPC I managed to get hold of one of the students taking part in the course to have a brief chat with me.

Laura Kennedy, is just one of the students taking part in Radio Underdog and whilst I was talking to Laura she had some very interesting facts to tell me about Radio Underdog:

Where did you hear about this course?

Sarah Jones (the organiser of the course) came to my school and gave a speech about the course, and said that she needed youngsters for it. So I thought this is a great chance for me to polish up my skills, because I always wanted to get into media.

So Laura, what exactly do you like about this course?

I just like being on air and working with such great people. Also for this course you need a lot of commitment, so to see your work paying off is just great.

OK then, what do you hate about the course?

I hate it when people start to mess around and we don't get any work done.

When I asked Laura how she kept herself motivated, she told me that the group is always doing something new and different, so you just can't get bored of it.

Just before I left Laura to do her work I asked her if she would recommend this course to anyone else and she replied:

"Anyone who is up for a good laugh and the experience, this is the place to be".

So if your getting bored at home, why not tune into 87.7 FM and check out Radio Underdog.
