"I know I've made a lot of mistakes in my life and now it's time to try and make amends. I made mum and dad's lives hell as a teenager. They never knew what mood I'd be in from one day to the next, or what colour my hair would be come to that! Dad was so strict and Mum would never go against him. He just couldn't accept that anyone else could be right. What he said was gospel and he was so straight laced, you can imagine his reaction when I presented them with Sean. I was 21, unmarried, addicted to drugs and here was my little brown baby. Dad wasted no time throwing me out and although he could barely look at Sean, he and mum took him away from me. I was in no state to look after him I know, I was only interested where my next fix was coming from. But I'll never forgive them from keeping Sean from me when I came back to get him."
"Things are different now though, I've been clean for years, proper job, home everything. It took a long time to pluck up the courage to come and find Sean. I didn't know if he'd even want to see me. I knew mum would have tried to poison him against me. It wasn't easy at first but I think we're getting there and he's beginning to trust me. I couldn't have done it without Rita though, how glad am I that she was still around. So it's all good news, I've got a relationship with Sean at long last, I've found my best mate and my brother again, and things are getting better with mum. I don't know if we'll ever be really close but at least we can be in the same room without killing each other and that's a start!" | |
