The State Funeral of Sir Winston Churchill - Part 2
In the second part of this broadcast, we move into St Paul's Cathedral to see the arrival of some of the heads of state and royal representatives who have travelled from all corners of the world to be present. Churchill's coffin is brought into the Cathedral and the service begins, delivered by Dean Matthews of St Paul's.
The arrival of HM Queen Elizabeth II - accompanied by HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Prince of Wales - marks a break with tradition as, by not arriving last, the Queen gives precedence to Churchill himself. Queen Elizabeth II had granted permission for Churchill to receive a state funeral in 1960.
