Yevgeny

Don't panic! English follows the Gaelic!

Is mise Yevgeny. Tha mi à Anglesey, ach tha mi a' fuireach ann an Leicester (Ciamar a chanas mi Anglesey agus Leicester?). Tha mi ag ionnsachadh Gàidhlig le 'Speaking Our Language'. Lorg mi am prògram seo air an iPlayer agus ‘s e prògram 1 a th'ann. Is toigh leam am prògram, gu h-àraidh air sgàth ‘s gu bheil na cleasaichean cho annasach. 'S e teaching assistant a th'annam agus tha mi a' cleachdadh Gàidhlig uaireannan leis a' chloinn. 'S e baile iomadh-chultarach a th' ann an Leicester, mar sin tha iad a' gabhail ri abairtean neònach. 'S e 'glè mhath' an abairt as fheàrr leam. Tha an ciall nur guth, mar sin dh'fhaodar seo ag ràdh ris a h-uile duine! Is toigh leam 'gabh air do shocair' cuideachd – fìor dheagh chomhairle.

I stumbled across it on iplayer a few weeks back and it happened to be episode 1, so I decided to give Gaelic a go and I've stuck with it so far. Is toigh leam am program, especially as the acting is so eccentric. 'S e teaching assistant a th'annam agus tha mi a' cleachdadh Gaidhlig air uairibh le a' chlann - Leicester is very multicultural, so they take strange phrases in their stride! My favourite saying: 'gle mhath' - (very good)- the meaning is in your tone of voice so you can say it to anyone. I also like 'gabh air do shocair' -(be careful) - generally good advice.
