Heather

Don't panic! English follows the Gaelic!

Halò, ‘s e Heather an t-ainm a th' orm. Tha mi a' fuireach air iomall baile Wellington ann an Sealainn Nuadh còmhla ris an duine agam Pòl agus tiùir dheugairean.

Bha mi ag iarraidh Gàidhlig ionnsachadh oir aig aon àm, nuair a bha mi òg, bha abairt no dhà aig mo mhàthair, ach cha chualas an cànan a-rithist.

Tha fhios agam gun robh Gàidhlig aig mo sheanair is sheanmhair. Tha mi ag iarraidh Gàidhlig ionnsachadh airson spèis a thoirt dhan dualchas Albannach agam. Chan eil i gu mòran feum ann an Sealainn Nuadh, ach tha mi an dòchas beagan Gàidhlig a thogail airson a thoirt dhan ath ghinealach. Tha mi a' dèanamh aonadan 1-5, agus tha mi air aonad 3 an-dràsta. Seo dealbh de chaladh Wellington.

Halò. My name is Heather. I live in a suburb of Wellington, New Zealand, with husband Paul and three teenagers.

I wanted to have a go at learning Gaelic, because at one stage when I was a child my mother spoke a phrase or two, then the language was not heard again.

I know my great grandparents spoke it. So I guess to honour the Scottish side of my heritage, I want to learn Gaelic. It isn't something that has much use in NZ, but I hope to master some Gaelic to pass on to the next generation. I am doing the units 1-5, currently on unit 3. I have included a photo of Wellington Harbour, there are no recent photos of me as don't like them being taken.
