San Francisco

Ellis

Don't panic! English follows the Gaelic!

‘S e Ellis an t-ainm a th' orm. Tha mi a' fuireach ann an San Francisco, SA. Tha ùidh agam ann an cànanan diofraichte agus bhrosnaich sin mi gus Gàidhlig ionnsachadh, cuideachd tha mi dèidheil air ceòl agus eachdraidh Gàidhlig. Chan eil mòran taic agam airson luchd-ionnsachaidh eile, ach ‘s e cànan doirbh a th' ann, ach cùm a' dol aig astar a tha freagarrach ort fhèin. Sann airson ceòl a bhios mi a' cleachdadh Gàidhlig nam bheatha làitheil. Bidh mi ag èisteachd ri Julie Fowlis is Sìneag Nic an t-Saoir, agus cleachdaidh mi na sgilean Gàidhlig agam airson na h-òrain aca a mhìneachadh. ‘S e "ge math clòimh, chan ithear clòimh" an seanfhacal as fheàrr leam.

Seo dealbh de San Francisco, am baile far a bheil mi air a bhith fuireach fad mo bheatha, am baile far a bheil mi ag ionnsachadh Gàidhlig le dòchas gum bi mi ga cleachdadh cho tric ‘s a ‘s urrainn dhomh.

My name is Ellis, I live in San Francisco, USA. I was inspired to learn Gaelic because I am a passionate language learner, and I love Gaelic music as well as Gaelic history. I don't have very many tips for other Gaelic learners other than it's a tough language, and keeping at your own pace is key to true mastery of the language. The only way I use Gaelic in my daily life is through music. I listen to Julie Fowlis and Sìneag MacIntyre, and I'll use my Gaelic skills to interpret the songs. My favourite Gaelic proverb is "ge math clòimh, chan ithear clòimh" (wool is good, but one doesn't eat wool).

I've attached a photo of San Francisco, the city I've lived in all my life, and the city where I learn Gaelic and hope to use it as often as I can.
