Jason Butler

Jason is writer, director and producer specialising in comedy.

Jason directed, co-wrote, and produced 4 series of the RTÉ sitcom “Bridget & Eamon”. He won two IFTA awards for the show – Best Director (Soap/Comedy) and Best Comedy.

“Bridget & Eamon” was the 1st RTÉ scripted comedy series to broadcast internationally selling to UKTV Gold, Hulu and Amazon.

Jason directed and produced 2 series of “The Paddy Raff Show” comedy sketch show for BBC NI - winning the RTS NI award for Scripted Comedy in 2022.

He directed the 4 x 1 hr factual entertainment comedy series “The 2 Johnnies Take On…” and “The 2 Johnnies Do America 2”, both for RTÉ.

Jason worked as Assistant Producer, writing and directing comedy sketches on 80 episodes of RTÉ 2’s flagship comedy show “Republic of Telly”. When he took over the show as series producer and head writer he increased ratings 50% year on year.

Recently Jason produced a series of short comedy films from emerging Northern Irish comedy writer/performers for Nice One Productions for BBC NI, and worked on developing a new comedy project written by Daniel Peak for Nice One / Birdie Pictures commissioned by BBC Comedy.

Jason has also devised and developed a new prime time chat show for RTÉ One – “Angela Scanlon’s Ask Me Anything”; directed, produced and co-wrote “Owen Colgan Around The Fire”, a comedy chat show for RTÉ Player, and in 2019 wrote, directed & co-produced a 20 minute dark drama for RTÉ Storyland – “Skip To The End”.

At the start of his career Jason won then Europe’s largest new screenwriting award the “Screen International Oscar Moore Award” and the Variety “Pitch Me” event at Cannes Film Festival. He has secured multiple screenplay development loans for his own TV and film projects and as a producer for other writers.

His short film “TUFTY” has screened all over the world and runs before the Rocky Horror Picture Show in Dublin to huge applause every Hallowe’en.
