BBC News Online's Tom Bourton keeps an eye out for any news about Welsh stars making headlines across the internet or in the papers. As one of the world's most glamorous women, Catherine Zeta Jones is probably used to receiving special treatment at most places she goes. But her star status does not mean she gets any preferential status when it comes to planning authorities in Swansea. Construction work on a luxury home at Mumbles that CZJ and husband Michael Douglas are having built has been delayed by a 80ft high sycamore, the Western Mail has reported.
The tree's branches are overhanging part of the development for the 1m mansion and architects have applied for permission to fell it. But they are not expecting any serious problems. "It will be replaced with a tree of a different species and we are confident that the building will be completed by the summer," said architect Michael Batcup. Meanwhile, the Stereophonics have announced on their website that they will be flying out to Los Angeles in January to mix their latest album ready for a May release. The website will also be getting a redesign for the latest album, which has been produced by the band's frontman Kelly Jones but has yet to be named. On a more painful note, John Rhys-Davies has been speaking about how he suffered a broken arm when a 12-foot wall fell on him during filming in Croatia. Speaking at the European premiere of the second Lord of the Rings instalment The Two Towers, Rhys-Davies said the incident was "not his most glorious moment". The Ammanford-born star was working on a movie called La Femme Muskateer when the set collapsed, trapping him underneath. "It took 30 men to get it off me. I was a very sad little fellow," he said. Reindeer On a more festive note, a batch of young Welsh stars have contributed to a cartoon about one of Santa's reindeer which will be shown on Christmas Eve. Ioan Gruffudd, Matthew Rhys and Rhys Ifans have all pitched in to voice characters in the S4C special, which is called Donner.
Matthew Rhys, who starred in The Abduction Club and Y Mabinogi, said he found his role of Skeeter challenging. "It's very technical and timing is imperative, but I also find it very enjoyable," he said. Elsewhere, former Pop Idol finalist Rosie Ribbons, from Swansea, has a new single out. Ribbons has followed up her debut Blink with a track called A Little Bit. Joining her in the pantheon of pop is nightclub owner Peter Stringfellow's girlfriend Lucy Carr, from Flint in north Wales, who has just released her debut single Missing You. She is signed onto Stringfellow's own record label and last week's launch for the record took place in - you have guessed it - Stringfellow's. Finally, Feeder have extended their UK tour - in which they are promoting their new Comfort in Sound album - yet again. Earlier they included new dates in London, Glasgow and Dundee - now they will be finishing off their travels with a visit to Ipswich on 15 February, | See also: 11 Dec 02 | Wales 11 Dec 02 | Wales 27 Nov 02 | Wales Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Wales stories now: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
