BBC News Online's Tom Bourton whizzes around the web and flicks through the papers to find any snippets of Welsh-related movie, music and showbiz gossip.

During the war with Afghanistan last year, one story that managed to steal headlines from the military effort was the case of journalist Yvonne Ridley.

Ms Ridley, whose previous employers included the Cardiff-based Wales on Sunday, was arrested and handed a death sentence after being caught undercover by the Taleban.

Ms Ridley had been working for the Sunday Express at the time, and was released after 10 days in captivity.

Now the Daily Express has reported that Ms Ridley's story could be made into a film, and has suggested that Cate Blanchett could take the leading role.

The report reveals that scriptwriter Gordon Thomas is alleged to be seeking backing for the project.

And the "Blanchett as a reporter" rumour is supposedly given extra weight by the fact she has just played the assassinated Irish journalist Veronica Guerin in Chasing the Dragon - due out next year.

But Ridley herself is said to be as shocked as anyone by the concept of being immortalised by Hollywood.

"Somebody suggested Julia Roberts for the part, but I always considered myself more as a Julie Walters sort of figure," she said.

Someone more familiar to the limelight is Catherine Zeta Jones, and the publicity machine for her latest movie Chicago continues to gather pace.

CZJ has also been in the news as heat magazine reports the Mumbles-born star regularly consults a Welsh psychic over her career.

"He told her she'd land a big TV part and soon after she got the role in The Darling Buds of May," said CZJ's biographer Cliff Goodwin.

"He told her she was pregnant even before she had even discovered it," he added.

Also in the film world, Cardiff has been hosting the Welsh international film festival over the last few days.

The festival started with a free screening of Plots with a View, a black comedy shot around Llantrisant, south Wales, and starring Christopher Walken, Lee Evans and Brenda Blethyn.

Another redesign

Elsewhere, the Lostprophets are revamping their website yet again!

Apparently, their original designer has shot off to college, so they have drafted in "some super wikkid safe web dudes and ladies" to sort the site out - it should be interesting whatever happens!

Jon Lee

Meanwhile, a poll by reader of the NME Originals site has voted Motorcyle Emptiness the best Manic Street Preachers song of all time.

The song scooped 25.7% of the vote, with Faster/PCP second with 15.1% and A Design for Life in bronze position with 11.9%.

At the other end of the scale, the early singles Suicide Alley and New Art Riot proved the least popular tracks.

Finally, Feeder lead singer Grant Nicholas, from Newport, south Wales, has been speaking to fans about the suicide of the band's drummer Jon Lee.

At a small gig in Edinburgh in front of a couple of hundred fans, Nicholas dedicated a song to his former colleague and told the audience.

"After Jon died we weren't sure if we were going to carry on as Feeder," said Nicholas.

"We are moving forward now. We are trying to put things behind us in some way."

"But Jon is never going to go away in our memories."
