If Welsh stars are making news somewhere on the planet, BBC News Online's Tom Bourton will do his best to find them.

It may still be a month before the next Lord of the Rings hits the cinemas, but the web is already becoming swamped with gossip, pictures and rumours.

I really want to do a show in Vegas - its like my last bastion

Catherine Zeta-Jones

For Welsh fans of the franchise, there is the added attraction of watching the west Walian John Rhys-Davies, who plays the dwarf Gimli.

Speaking to The One Ring website, a slimmed-down Rhys Davies admitted that he nearly missed out, partly because he had his doubts about the project and partly because he wanted another role.

"I admit I was shocked to learn that Peter Jackson had envisioned me as a dwarf," said the Ammanford-born star.

"I am six feet tall, tallest of the actors playing the Fellowship and I of all was selected to play the little Gimli."

Check out the link on the right for more of the interview, which includes revelations on how he was shrunk and why his friends thought he had retired.

After you have read that though, it is back to the waiting game, until the movie appears on big screens around the world on 18 December.

Michael Douglas
Michael Douglas: Makes Catherine feel like a nun...apparently

As for Catherine Zeta Jones, she has been complaining to Elle magazine that she feels like the nun in her marriage to Michael Douglas.

Douglas, who starred in Basic Instinct, has told his wife that she should take sexier movie roles - or, in his words, a "red-hot sexy mama" character.

CZJ also told the magazine that, after testing her lungs out in the upcoming movie version of Chicago, she has plans to keep on singing.

"I really want to do a show in Vegas - it's like my last bastion," said the actress from the south Wales resort of Mumbles.

Feeder gig

Staying in the music world, one star who does not seem capable of avoiding the wrong kind of headlines is Charlotte Church.

This week, she is supposed to have sacked her mother as her manager.

If Simon Cowell slated me the way he did the kids on Pop Idol, I'd wait for him after the show

Tom Jones

But she then clarified the situation to BBC News Online, saying that her parents had never officially been her managers, and would continue to have a strong involvement in her career.

Meanwhile, Feeder have announced they will be playing a free show at a secret Scottish location on 19 November.

See details on how to win tickets through the NME link on the right.

And finally, Tom Jones has been quoted in Heat magazine saying that he would not put up with being criticised by Simon Cowell on live television.

"If he slated me the way he did the kids on Pop Idol, I'd wait for him after the show," said the voice from Pontypridd.

Consider that a warning!
