The Prince of Wales is travelling to north east Wales as part of his annual summer visit.

He will arrive in the region by helicopter on Saturday after his whistle stop tour of mid Wales.

His first destination is Ruthin in Denbighshire.

The prince was last in the town three years ago, when he visited the now refurbished former gaol.

This time, he will meet members of PRIME-Cymru, a scheme which promotes the benefits of self-employment for people over the age of 50.

Prince Charles is the scheme's president and he will talk to people involved with PRIME-Cymru during a walkabout in St Peter's Square.

Royal watcher Colin Edwards will be amongst people trying to catch a glimpse of the prince.

Warm and friendly

The 61-year-old photographer has been a fan of the monarchy since he was 12 and has spent much of his spare time over the last two decades taking photos of the Royal family.

He said he is looking forward to the visit: "I've met him several times, he's actually very good on walkabouts, he's very warm and friendly."

Well known on the "Royal watchers" circuit, Mr Edwards said he thinks the Prince will know him: "They normally recognise me, he did last time he saw me."

The keen photographer has taken hundreds of photographs of the Royal family, especially of his favourite member, the Queen Mother who died in March.

He said: "In the past I've normally given the Prince a photo of his grandmother, but I don't know if it would be disrespectful now.

"I have got a very good one of William though.

"I took it during the Jubilee and I'm going to give him that."

He added: "I also have one of him when he was in Ruthin 33-years-ago and I may get a copy to give to him."

The Prince will leave Ruthin and travel to Wrexham later in the afternoon.

As vice-president of the National Trust, he will re-visit Erddig House to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its opening to the public.

During his visit, the prince will watch craft workers and visit the house and gardens before joining guests at the anniversary celebrations in the Rose Garden.

The Prince of Wales will end his tour of Denbighshire and Wrexham in Llandrillo near Corwen.

He will officially open the bowling green and tour the village, visiting the pub, shop and post office and church.
