 | | Wednesday, 15 May, 2002, 17:59 GMT 18:59 UK Charles unveils Chelsea garden  Prince Charles visited the garden for an hour The Prince of Wales has visited a garden he helped to design for the Chelsea Flower Show. The Healing Garden, which will be open to the public later this month, is dedicated to his late grandmother, the Queen Mother. The prince chatted to workers preparing the plants and shrubs and to co-designer Jinny Blom when he visited. A dedication set in a boulder in the garden says: "In loving and devoted memory" and shows the insignia of the Queen Mother and an inlay of the Prince of Wales feathers.
The garden contains about 125 plants, trees and shrubs, many of which can be used as remedies. The prince said he thought of dedicating the garden to his grandmother soon after her death. "She relied on homeopathy all her life and it seemed appropriate," he said. "It is to remind people about the medicinal properties of some flowers and plants, to reconnect people with the remedies that can be found about them." Plants include cherry plum, a remedy for stress. The Prince's Garden will be open to the public on 23 and 24 May. The Chelsea Flower Show runs from 21 - 24 May at the Royal Hospital in Chelsea. | |
