Organisations across south west Wales are gearing up for the visit of the Queen on the second of her three day Jubilee visit to Wales.

After spending Wednesday morning at a picnic at Dolau station near Llandrindod Wells in Powys, the Queen will travel south on the Royal train to open improvement works and new lock in Burry Port Harbour, Carmarthenshire.

Accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, she will also officially open the Millennium Coastal Park before visiting Carmarthenshire Trade Fair at Llanelli's north dock.

The royal party will end the day at the Festival of Youth and Community Service in Margam Park.

At Burry Port, the Queen will visit the lifeboat station as part of her tour of the area.

Chairman Tom Francis said it is a great honour for the volunteers in Burry Port and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) itself.

He said: "It is the first time in our history for the Queen to visit and will be a great day for the town.

"I have served 30 years with the RNLI so it is a proud moment for me.

"I don't feel nervous but I am looking forward immensely to meeting the Queen."

The Queen will then perform the official opening of the �27m Millennium Coastal Park in Llanelli and drive along a length of its pathway.

She is also due to meet representatives of the area's business community at the Carmarthenshire Trade Fair exhibition.

Owain Davies, of Burry Port-based Spencer Davies Engineering, said: "It will be an honour for us but it will be nice for her to meet the real people of Carmarthenshire.

"Her visit will certainly help with marketing the area to a wider audience."

Experience

Five thousand schoolchildren from across the county will attend the festivities including pupils from Ysgol Dewi Sant, Llanelli.

Alun Harries, 9, said: "I don't think anyone in my class or even the whole year has seen the Queen before so it will be a once in a lifetime experience."

Nicole Williams, 9, added: "She spends a lot of time in England but now she's had the chance to come to Wales - she's taken it."

Later, the Royal party is due to move onto Neath and Port Talbot where representatives from youth and community service organisations will be welcoming them at Margam Park.

On Tuesday the Queen arrived on Anglesey in the Royal train pulled by a steam locomotive for the first time in 35 years.

She was cheered by crowds as she carried out a string of engagements - including a service at Bangor Cathedral - in the bright sunshine.

The Golden Jubilee tour of Wales finishes in the south Wales valleys and Cardiff on Thursday.
