The Queen has begun a three-day visit to Wales as part of her Golden Jubilee tour with hundreds of well-wishers cheering her arrival.

Accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, she arrived at Llanfairpwll, Anglesey, aboard the Royal train.

A locomotive pulled the queen into north Wales

For the first time in 35 years, the train was pulled by a steam locomotive - the recently restored Princess Coronation Class Duchess of Sutherland.

The Royal party was greeted by bright sunshine and a cheering crowd of around 1,000 people waving Union and Welsh flags.

In keeping with the openness of the jubilee bank holiday celebrations in London, delighted well-wishers were allowed on the platform to wave off the Royal party.

Wearing a lemon dress suit, the Queen stopped to greet local dignitaries and schoolchildren.

She then left for nearby Beaumaris Castle to tour the Anglesey craft exhibition.

Hundreds gathered to welcome the Queen

Later on Tuesday, the Queen attended a thanksgiving service at Bangor Cathedral, a private lunch at Penrhyn Castle, and a sports event in Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay, before leaving by train from Llandudno.

Royal fan Sian Hughes recently attended the gala jubilee party at Buckingham Palace and was delighted to get close to the Queen at Llandudno station.

"The jubilee party was something quite amazing, but saying that, it was nice to be here and wave her off on the train," she said.

The Royal visit comes just days after the clean-up at more than 500 street parties across the country to celebrate the Queen's 50 years on the throne.

On Wednesday, the tour will move on to south west Wales, finishing in the south Wales Valleys and Cardiff on Thursday.

The Queen chatted to people in the crowd

During her trip to south west Wales, the Queen will open the new lock at Burry Port harbour and perform the official opening of the Millennium Coastal Park in Llanelli.

The Royal party will also attend the Festival of Youth and Community service at Margam Park near Port Talbot.

On Thursday, the Queen will visit the south Wales Valleys before ending her tour in Cardiff.

It has been estimated that almost 500 roads and streets were closed for festivities across Wales by the end of the Jubilee weekend which also included around 100 fire beacons.
