Prince Charles and his sons William and Harry were treated to an update on England's World Cup progress in the middle of a church service in Wales.

The three most important Royals after the Queen had flown into Swansea on Sunday for a Golden Jubilee visit to the city.

It was the first time father and sons had made the trip simultaneously.

They attended a special service at St Mary's Church, St Mary's Square, in Swansea city centre - but unfortunately for the soccer-mad teenage princes, it clashed with England's opening match against Sweden.

But they were kept up to date with the score in the church by the Bishop of Swansea and Brecon, the Right Reverend Tony Pierce, who announced the score as 1-0 during his address.

He added that it was a shame that the church had not been unable to install an electronic scoreboard to let people know football results.

After the service, he said he had not had the final score when he made the announcement - and the princes' faces had seemed to light up along with many others in the congregation.

He said he had decided to make the announcement because he had heard the congregation included "certain people who had a particular interest in the fortunes of England".

A royal aide said the princes had been disappointed to miss the match, but it had been their choice to accept the Swansea invitation.

More than 3,000 people turned out to greet the royal party, and there was a shout of "William I love you" from a girl in the crowd.

The hour-long service at St Mary's began at 1115 BST on Sunday. Before they left, the princes were shown photographs of the late Queen Mother, who visited the church following its rebuilding from wartime rubble.

The Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, will also visit south west Wales on 12 June.

She will open the new lock at Burry Port harbour and perform the official opening of the Millennium Coastal Park in Llanelli.

They will also attend the Festival of Youth and Community service at Margam Park near Port Talbot.
