The band has joined a group of local musicians in recording a charity CD to raise awareness of the Freshwater East Coastcare Project.
The Coastcare Project is linked to the Keep Wales Tidy campaign and aims to encourage local communites to adopt a stretch of beach and keep it clean. There are more than 20 projects going on in west Wales. Steve Cannon, chair of the Freshwater East Coastcare Project, said they were very pleased Gorky's had backed the CD project. "Two of the band's members live in Freshwater East and when I went round to ask for their support, they said yes straightaway." The band has donated a track "Fresher than the sweetness in water" from their recent mini CD. Six other groups of Pembrokeshire musicians have united to produce the "rootsy feel" CD which draws inspiration from the dramatic local landscape.
They also advocate responsible action for beach activities including the use of jet skis. "We decided this was a very good way of raising public awareness about the scheme," he said. "We want people to take responsibility themselves for the issue of keeping the beach clean." The Freshwater East group attracted sponsorship for the CD - including some from Texaco and the Pembrokeshire Association for Voluntary Services. The CD was being officially launched at the De Valence Paviilion in Tenby on Friday with the support of local MP Nick Ainger and AM Christine Gwyther. | See also: 15 Jun 01 | Wales 08 May 02 | Entertainment 10 Nov 99 | Wales 30 Apr 00 | Wales 29 Nov 00 | Wales Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Wales stories now: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
