| Wednesday, November 10, 1999 Published at 15:56 GMTUK: Wales Gorky's launch unique pop video ![]() Gorky's new video Spanish Dance Troup is an all Welsh affair This year has been successful for Welsh bands like the Stereophonics and Manic Street Preachers. But while the groups are homegrown many of the songs and videos are recorded outside Wales.
Spanish Dance Troupe - the current single and album from Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - tells the story of an alternative lifestyle in the Mediterranean. The song and the rest of the album were recorded on the north Wales island of Anglesey - and the video was made at the Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff. At 15,000 it is low budget by music video standards - and was put together by a local animator Gerald Conn. "I showed the band a film we made last year with children using cutouts and a lightbox and they liked the technique and I think it suited the song," he said. Explaining how the video was put together he added: "They are made with puppets and have separate bits so they can be moved around under the camera adjusting the sound and the cutouts together frame by frame."
"It is very good . It captures the song really well," she said. "There is movement and a story and it is quite new for us as well, it's also nice not being in it." Gorky's have been together for eight years - but their cult appeal has not translated into sales. They were dropped by their record label last year and lost a band member. With both the single and video getting regular airplay they hope this comeback track could set them on the road to success. |
