A number of new rail services are being introduced in the west of Scotland.

The changes also include the return to normal of some routes affected by last year's ScotRail pay dispute.

The first passenger service on the Holytown to Wishaw line since 1974 has begun.

Services between Glasgow and Lanark will be increased to two an hour with new peak-time trains will be introduced from Ayr, Barrhead, Busby and East Kilbride.

The half-hourly daytime service between Dalmuir and Bellgrove and peak-time expresses from Balloch and Milngavie to Glasgow are resuming.

Deal agreed

They were suspended during the dispute but are now resuming after ScotRail and Strathclyde Passenger Transport reached a compensation deal.

Emergency timetables had to be drawn up when drivers refused to work overtime.

To make up for the disruption, ScotRail provided extra trains and services on SPT routes.

Other changes are the return of services in peak hours between Coatbridge Central and Whifflet and Glasgow, via Hamilton.

The hourly Motherwell to Cumbernauld service will also run later in the evening.
