| Thursday, 28 November, 2002, 07:58 GMT Diana's mother in car crash ![]() Frances Shand Kydd was unhurt in the incident The mother of the late Diana Princess of Wales has been involved in a car crash a few miles from her Scottish home. Frances Shand Kydd was unhurt in the incident on the B844 at Kilninver near Oban on Wednesday. It is understood the 66-year-old lost control of her Audi car and crashed into a bridge parapet. She would not comment on the accident and is now back at her home on the remote Isle of Seil.
"The crash occurred when an Audi motor car being driven by a 66-year-old woman appears to have lost control and collided with a bridge parapet. "The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was not injured and there was no damage to property. "Inquiries are complete and no persons have been charged." It has been a torrid few months for Mrs Shand Kydd. Last week it emerged that she, along with her daughter Lady Sarah McCorquodale and the memorial fund set up in Princess Diana's name are being sued for 16m in the latest twist in a row over a commemorative plate. Break-in US-based Franklin Mint, has accused them of "maliciously" fighting to retain the rights to Diana's name. The law suit has come just weeks after the trial of Diana's former butler, Paul Burrell, collapsed. During the trial Diana's prickly relationships with her mother and brother were exposed. The Princess died without healing a rift with Mrs Shand Kydd and the pair did not speak for the last four months of her life. Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris in 1997. Mrs Shand Kydd conceded letters to her "tempestuous" daughter were returned unopened, but denied the row was caused by her disapproval of the company Diana was keeping in her private life. While Mrs Shand Kydd was giving evidence at the Old Bailey thieves broke into her home and stole her jewellery collection. Among the items stolen was a pearl and diamond choker which she often wore to official functions, a gold anchor brooch and a small floral antique brooch. Nothing belonging to Diana was taken. | See also: 25 Oct 02 | Scotland 01 Nov 02 | England Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Scotland stories now: Links to more Scotland stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
