Health chiefs consider strike moves
Picket at Glasgow Royal Infirmary
Glasgow Royal Infirmary is affected by the strike
Health chiefs have been meeting to asses the impact of strike action by clerical and admin staff at five hospitals in Glasgow.

North Glasgow University Hospitals NHS Trust managers meeting daily since the unofficial action - over pay - began last Thursday.

They have been discussing how the walkout by more than 300 workers is affecting services at the hospitals and how long it might last.

The strike follows a row over pay and conditions at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, the Royal Maternity Hospital, Stobhill, Canniesburn and the Dental Hospital.

Workers want better pay and conditions

Some of the staff taking part in the industrial action have been demonstrating at an unofficial picket line at the Royal Infirmary.

A trust spokeswoman, on Wednesday, said: "On Monday we had 339 staff off but some have heeded the call to come back to work and we had about 320 off yesterday.

"We're just taking things one day at a time and assessing the situation but we still have some demonstrators out today so we'll just have to see."

The staff are calling for a rise of 1,000 and have said they are not prepared to wait for a national pay deal.

The trust has written to staff asking them to return to work and the health union Unison has also urged them to return.

Health bosses have said the national pay bargaining process would benefit the low-paid in Glasgow and elsewhere.

The trust has claimed that many of the staff taking part had not been told by their union of the possible consequences.
