Four fishermen have been rescued after their boat collided with its sister vessel 150 miles east of Aberdeen.

The alarm was raised at 0220 BST after the Peterhead-registered Devotion hit the Fruitful Bough.

The four men took to a liferaft and were helped on board the Fruitful Bough. None was hurt.

The Devotion sank about an hour later.

Weather conditions are said to have been flat calm.

The men are due back in Peterhead about 2200 BST on Monday.

Helicopter scrambled

Aberdeen Coastguard watch manager Ross Greenhill said: "There were other vessels in the area that would have been able to assist but it was definitely a boon to themselves to have another vessel so close by.

"We scrambled a helicopter from Norway that was actually the nearest aircraft at the time.

"Before he was airborne he was stood down because the crew were safely off."
