Four cameras will be put up in Hollinwood Cemetery and the nearby Oldham Crematorium after they became a target for vandals. Pictures will be beamed to Oldham's 24-hour CCTV monitoring station in the town centre. The cameras will cover inside the cemetery gates and the area outside. Work to install the system will begin in the next two weeks. Councillor Chris Hilyer, Executive Member for Culture, Leisure and Tourism at Oldham Council, said: "Together with measures taken last year, which included lowering bushes to improve visibility across the cemetery, we hope to beat the cemetery vandals." The work will be funded by the area's Single Regeneration Budget. | See also: 27 Dec 02 | England 07 Feb 02 | Science/Nature 30 Mar 01 | UK Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
