| Thursday, 30 January, 2003, 06:29 GMT Cancer heroine's 1,000 mile challenge ![]() Jane has raised more than �100,000 for charity A terminally ill woman who has already completed the London Marathon and the Great North Run will attempt to cycle from John O'Groats to Land's End. Jane Tomlinson, 38, from Rothwell, Leeds, will travel on a tandem with her brother for the 1,060-mile journey. It is the latest challenge for the mother-of-three, who has been having chemotherapy, and ran in the York half marathon on Sunday. Last year she completed the hat-trick of the London Marathon, Great North Run and the London Triathlon.
Her exploits have seen her win a number of awards including the BBC Sports Personality of the Year's Helen Rollason award. She has also already raised more than �100,000 for Cancer Research UK. This year sponsorship money will be split between Cancer Research UK, Sport Aided Research for Kids, Leeds Hospital Trust paediatric services, and Hannah House, a respite care centre in Rothwell. She said she decided on her new challenge after a joke with her brother. She said: "We were sat with a beer and a roaring fire in a pub in the Yorkshire Dales after getting soaked on a bike ride, and we started laughing when I suggested it. Leeds detour "Even if your future is uncertain you should be able to do what you want to do. "However I may change my mind five days in, when I'm lying in bed and my legs are still cycling round." Jane was diagnosed with breast cancer 12 years ago and had a mastectomy. Two years ago she was told the cancer had spread to her lungs and bones, and was incurable. Jane and her brother Luke Goward will start the challenge on 21 March, and will include a detour to Leeds.
