Engineering firm to close
GKN Thompson Chassis
The company is moving to Telford
An engineering company that employs about 300 people is closing down.

GKN Thompson Chassis will shut its plant in Wolverhampton next year and move the operation to Telford.

The plant makes chassis for the Vauxhall Frontera and Land Rover Discovery.

A spokesman from the firm said the move would end its long history in the Black Country.

Staff at the Millfields Road plant, formerly UPF Thompson, will be given the chance to transfer to the new site.

The announcement comes just 12 months after a takeover bid that was thought to safeguard jobs.
