The project involves changing traffic flow on dozens of roads, including the notorious Maid Marian Way. The road was recently named the fourth worst in Britain in a BBC radio poll. The first phase of the work - expected to last 26 weeks - will also include the Tollhouse Hill roundabout and surrounding streets. Nottingham City Councillor Alan Clark admitted the project, called Turning Point, would cause traffic problems. "Delays are inevitable while the work is underway and motorists are advised to avoid the area if at all possible. "Once it is finished, the environment around the inner ring road will be significantly better, areas like the castle will be more closely linked with the Old Market Square and traffic flow will be improved around the city." | See also: 06 Jan 03 | England 26 Nov 02 | England 20 Sep 02 | UK Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
