| Tuesday, 17 December, 2002, 17:27 GMT Vigil for shot teenager ![]() Brendon was shot in the street near his home The family of a teenager shot dead in a Nottingham street are holding a candle-lit vigil at the scene of his murder. Brendon Lawrence, 16, was killed on 19 February as he stepped out of a car close to his home. Police have arrested a number of people in connection with his death, but no-one has been charged. The schoolboy was shot in the St Ann's area of the city. Gun crime Witnesses said they heard three shots being fired - it is thought Brendon was hit twice in the left leg and once in the chest. Despite extensive police work, numerous family appeals and a 10,000 reward, no-one has been able to provide information about the identity of his killer.
Detective Superintendent Kevin Flint said: "I hope the vigil on Tuesday will draw attention to the devastating effects of guns on the streets and serve as a reminder to those who carry them. "The investigation continues and I encourage anyone with information about the murder to contact the police." Brendon's twin brother, Calvin, and his older brother, Richard, 22, produced a rap album in his honour and his father, Roy Lawrence, 42, visits the scene of his murder most days to lay flowers. The schoolboy's mother, Janice Collins, and the family were leading the vigil in the hope that someone with information will come forward. A Nottinghamshire Police spokeswoman said: "Brendon's mother and father have supported the police during the past months and the Lawrence family has played a part in encouraging the community to speak to officers." | See also: 19 Sep 02 | England 20 Aug 02 | England 20 Feb 02 | England Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
