| Tuesday, 10 December, 2002, 18:21 GMT New bus station for Norwich approved ![]() The city of Norwich is getting a new bus station A new 10m bus station is to be built in Norwich after the government approved the funding. The government has awarded Norfolk County Council one of the best settlements for years with nearly 40m coming to the county for roads and transport. The money will fund a new bus station for Norwich. The county council recently bought the old bus station land.
The site will now be completely redeveloped with a new fire station as well as a bus station. The government has agreed that 9.5m can be spent on building a new terminus and improving road links for buses between the train station and the new bus station. Work could start in late 2003 and be completed in the Spring of 2005. There will also be a new road for the NarOuse scheme at King's Lynn and money for new park and ride schemes at Sprowston and Harford just outside Norwich. Derek Turnbull, deputy leader of the council, said: "This is tremendous news for Norwich and everyone who lives in or visits the city. "We made a strong case for extra-funding to help us redevelop the area so that the city at last has a bus station it can be proud of." | See also: 06 Dec 02 | England Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
