A police spokesman said: "At about 0230 GMT officers were called to a report of a man being shot.

"The victim was taken to the accident and emergency department of City Hospital where he died.

"A post mortem has been carried out which revealed he died of a gunshot wound."

Detective Superintendent Andy Hunter said there may have been other people injured in the attack.

"I'm told a number of shots were discharged inside the premises," he said.

"Inquiries have been made at hospitals because I have a serious concern there may be other injured parties."
