| Saturday, 7 December, 2002, 12:30 GMT Man shot dead in town centre ![]() Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward Police have started a murder investigation after a 24-year-old man was shot dead in West Bromwich town centre. The victim, who has not been named, is believed to have died from gunshot wounds on Friday night. He died at the scene in High Street at about 2210 GMT. Police were called to the scene after members of the public spotted a body lying in the street. Witness appeal Parts of the road were immediately sealed off and forensic experts are continuing to work at the scene. A West Midlands police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm we have launched a murder inquiry. "The victim, a man who is believed to have received gunshot wounds, was pronounced dead at the scene."
