Villagers join airport protests
Air traffic control tower at Heathrow airport
Residents say they will be in the flight path
Residents of a Northamptonshire village have vowed to fight proposals for any new runways in the area.

Villagers Yelvertoft, near Daventry, packed a public meeting on Monday night to protest against a possible plan to site a new airport nearby, at Church Lawford near Rugby in Warwickshire.

The proposal, in a government consultation paper, is for a two-runway international airport.

Charlie Watts, who chaired the meeting, said the site would have a huge impact on the village.

Stacking circles

"The Church Lawford site would be approximately six or seven miles from us.

"We actually appear in the plans as being right underneath one of the stacking circles for the airport."

Those at the meeting also signed a petition against the plans.

The government's proposals to build new runways and airports across Britain to cope with rising demand have come under fierce criticism since being unveiled in July.

The consultation period finishes at the end of November.
