A second partygoer has told the inquest into the death of a man found in Michael Barrymore's swimming pool that he was offered cocaine by the television star.

During his appearance at the inquest on Thursday, Mr Barrymore refused to answer questions on similar allegations made by another guest.

But he denied giving the dead man, Stuart Lubbock, ecstasy tablets at a party at his Essex home on 31 March last year.

Mr Lubbock, 31, was found face down in the swimming pool and was taken to hospital, where he died.

Post-mortem examinations showed he had a combination of alcohol and drugs, including cocaine, in his system.

On Friday, James Futters told the hearing in Epping that the star offered him "white powder" on his finger at the party. He assumed it was cocaine.

He said he had not seen Mr Lubbock taking drugs but did see him drinking a lot.

Tests showed Mr Lubbock was about three times over the legal drink-drive limit when his body was examined after his death.

Internal injuries

Mr Futters told the hearing that Mr Lubbock had been in a good mood at the party, and was "sort of jumping around".

Asked about internal injuries which two pathologists said may have been the result of a serious sexual assault, Mr Futters said he had not seen anything to suggest this had taken place at Mr Barrymore's house.

He said he might have seen the father-of-two swimming, but could not be sure as it had been dark.

It was only as he was about to swim that he realised Mr Lubbock was at the bottom of the pool.

Another party guest, Simon Shaw, pulled Mr Lubbock from the pool.

In a statement read at the hearing, he said he succeeded in pulling Mr Lubbock from the water at his second attempt.

Another partygoer then tried mouth-to-mouth in an attempt to resuscitate him.

'Bit scary'

Mr Shaw said he saw Mr Lubbock being sick, which made him think the man was going to be all right.

He decided to leave the house because "what happened was a bit scary".

He said he did not know why Barrymore accompanied him and Mr Futters when they left the house.

Mr Shaw said: "We talked about what had happened, but thought the person would be all right because he appeared to be breathing.

"I saw Barrymore use my mobile phone calling someone who I assumed was his PR man."

Pink substance

Mr Shaw, who admitted in a statement that he was very drunk, said that when Mr Lubbock was pulled from the pool, he noticed a pink substance coming from his mouth that smelled similar to the drink Aftershock.

He told police that he did not see any drug taking or "physical contact" taking place at the house.

Terry Brennan, one of two paramedics from Essex Ambulance Service who fought to save Mr Lubbock's life, also told the court that he smelled alcohol as they tried to revive him.

Mr Brennan also said that he did not see any blood on Mr Lubbock and there was none on the poolside.
