| Tuesday, 20 November, 2001, 14:05 GMT Barrymore to return to TV ![]() Barrymore has won several National Television Awards Troubled entertainer Michael Barrymore has been signed up for a further series of his ITV weekend show My Kind of Music. LWT - who makes the show - confirmed on Tuesday that the series would begin filming in the new year. Doubts were raised earlier in the year over Barrymore's future on TV when a man died after being found in the swimming pool at his luxury home. Barrymore was also questioned by police over alleged drugs offences. The star was released without charge, saying later he intended to seek "intensive treatment" for personal problems. But LWT, which makes My Kind of Music - named best entertainment show at the National Television Awards last month - said that it had always intended to offer Barrymore a new series.
However, a spokeswoman refused to discuss details of Barrymore's salary or length of contract. Barrymore has been one of the UK's favourite TV personalities for several years. He has been named Britain's most popular entertainer on five occasions. But the last few months have been turbulent for the presenter and ones during which he has been absent from TV screens. Barrymore has been in the media spotlight for several months after butchery worker Stuart Lubbock, 31, was discovered unconscious in the swimming pool following a party on 31 March. Barrymore was later cleared by police of any involvement in the death but was cautioned for possession of drugs. Under drug laws, a caution can only be issued if the amount of drugs a person is accused of possessing in "minimal". A caution can also only be issued if a person admits guilt. In a recent interview with journalist Martin Bashir, Barrymore admitted to sometimes taking large quantities of drugs and alcohol. | See also: Top TV and Radio stories now: Links to more TV and Radio stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
