Festival dedicated to 'quiet' Beatle
George Harrison
George Harrison's sister Louise will be at the festival
A weekend of events in Liverpool will pay tribute to the life and music of George Harrison.

The annual Mathew Street Festival is dedicated to the late Beatle, who died last year.

And original Beatles drummer Pete Best will become the first member of the band to play at the festival, which centres on the street where the group played their first UK gigs.

Harrison's sister Louise will also be a guest of honour at the festival, which is now in its tenth year.

More than 150 bands will be playing across five outdoor stages and indoor venues around the city centre area of Mathew Street.

Organisers of the festival claim it is the biggest annual city centre music event in the UK.

In 2001 more than 300,000 packed into Liverpool city centre on the August bank holiday.

Beatles fans from across the world are expected to make their way to the city for the event.

One of the centrepieces will be an exhibition of George Harrison's photography.

Guest of honour will be George Harrison's sister, Louise, who is travelling from home in Illinois, USA, to attend.

A mosaic called The Magic Eye and designed by John Lennon - it weighs two tons and measures 16ft by 6ft - is also due to be unveiled to expectant fans.

As well as reviving the 60s rivalry between the Beatles and the Rolling Stones on Saturday, Monday's events will trace the history of pop music from the 1960s onwards.

The festival will also be accessible to computer users around the world through a live web cast, which is due to last for the full three days of the event.
