| Thursday, 28 November, 2002, 21:07 GMT Beatle remembered a year on ![]() George and his wife Olivia were married for 23 years The city of Liverpool was paying tribute to George Harrison on Friday, a year after the star's death. A number of events were due to take place, including amateur musicians performing to honour claims the "quiet Beatle" reportedly turned up to play with them anonymously. The Beatles Story exhibition was also scheduled to open its doors for free. The replica Cavern Club, inside the exhibition at Albert Dock, was due to open for all fans to remember Harrison. Students' tribute The events were taking place as the two surviving Beatles, Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, were preparing to play a tribute concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Other special events in Liverpool included singing by school children and students from the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. Harrison attended the college when it was named the Liverpool Institute. There is also a scheduled performance by the amateur musicians of the George Formby Players. It is understood Harrison would often turn up anonymously to perform at meetings of the players. |
