Madonna complains over baby story

Pop singer Madonna has complained to the UK's press watchdog after celebrity magazine Heat published a story saying the star was pregnant.

She has denied the report, saying there was "no truth" in the story that she was expecting her third child.

She dyed her hair brown instead of blond - that does not confirm somebody's pregnant

"We received the complaint today which states that the article in Heat magazine alleging she is pregnant is inaccurate," a Press Complaints Commission spokeswoman said.

Heat said Madonna, 44, visited a birth clinic three months into her pregnancy and reported on her change of hair colour and clothes style.

"It's not true, it's not accurate. She dyed her hair brown instead of blonde- that does not confirm somebody's pregnant," Madonna's spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg said.

"And she's been wearing baggy clothes for 20 years, so what else is new?"

Ms Rosenberg said Madonna was in Los Angeles shooting a video, and "when people see that they'll see for themselves she's not pregnant".

Guy Ritchie and Madonna

Madonna already has two children, Lourdes, six, and two-year-old Rocco.

The PCC told BBC News Online it would try to find a resolution acceptable to both sides, such as a correction or a note in the magazine's files.

If that was not possible, the commission would rule on whether the story breached its code of conduct.

It would take into account how significant the inaccuracy was, how hard the magazine tried to check the story and what measures it had taken to meet Madonna's concerns after publication.

Move rumours

If the complaint was upheld, the magazine would have to print the PCC's adjudication - but the commission cannot impose fines and has no legal powers.

Madonna recently denied rumours that she has quit the UK to move back to Los Angeles.

She settled in the UK following her marriage to Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels director Guy Ritchie in 2000.

A spokesman for Ritchie said the couple split their time roughly evenly between the UK and the US and they still had a love for all things British.
