| Sunday, 29 December, 2002, 17:00 GMT Barrymore calls for second inquest ![]() Barrymore's lawyers have new evidence to put forward Television presenter Michael Barrymore has called for a second inquest into the death of a partygoer found floating in his swimming pool. Mr Barrymore says he hopes that unheard medical evidence could be used to explain the death of butcher Stuart Lubbock. The entertainer's lawyers have obtained a new witness statement from a nurse who performed examinations on Mr Lubbock after he was taken to hospital, The Observer newspaper says. Mr Lubbock, 31, was found in Mr Barrymore's pool at his luxury home in Roydon, near Harlow, Essex, in March last year.
The coroner had been told that Mr Lubbock suffered internal injuries which suggested he might also have been the victim of a serious sexual assault before his death. Nurse Stuart Nairn, who carried out a number of checks on Mr Lubbock using a rectal thermometer, has told Mr Barrymore's lawyers he saw no evidence of anal injuries. Mr Barrymore argues that the injuries did not happen at his house, but occurred after Mr Lubbock's body left his home.
"It's a fact it did not happen. My solicitor has sent a seven-page report of the evidence that was not raised at the inquest. "And I can't be sitting down, worrying about game-show formats with all this hanging over me." On Monday it was revealed that Mr Barrymore would not be charged with perjury following the inquest. He had said that he could not swim, but his former wife Cheryl later contradicted the claim. However, his solicitor David Corker said Essex Police had told him they had ended their investigation into the perjury allegation. | See also: 23 Dec 02 | England 11 Dec 02 | Entertainment 01 Oct 02 | Entertainment 30 Sep 02 | Entertainment 20 Sep 02 | Entertainment 16 Sep 02 | UK 13 Sep 02 | England 13 Sep 02 | Entertainment Top Entertainment stories now: Links to more Entertainment stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
