| Tuesday, 3 December, 2002, 15:20 GMT Oasis scrap German tour ![]() Gallagher has had emergency work on his mouth Oasis have been forced to abandon their German tour so singer Liam Gallagher can have more treatment after two of his teeth were knocked out in a fight. The star will return to the UK after spending Monday undergoing emergency dental work in Germany. Gallagher, drummer Alan White and three members of the band's crew were allegedly involved in a brawl with Italian tourists in a hotel nightclub in the early hours of Sunday.
Police have said they would "probably" not prosecute him, although investigations are still continuing. "Following the events of last weekend, Oasis have reluctantly taken the decision to postpone the remaining dates on their German tour," a statement said. "The damage to Liam's teeth is worse than it first appeared and he will have to return to the UK for surgery before he will be able to perform again." One witness is reported to have seen the imprint of a knuckle duster on his face. They had already postponed gigs in Munich and Hamburg, but have now called off shows in Dusseldorf and Bremen. Their UK tour is due to start in Cardiff on Sunday. "We are hopeful that the UK dates will go ahead as planned," said the band's spokesman. 'Unprovoked' The Munich fracas was the latest in a long line of headline-grabbing incident's in the band's history. The group said they were victims of an unprovoked attack. But a witness told police that the trouble started when a "physical altercation" broke out among the musicians at about 0200 local time (0100 GMT). "In the course of this fight, one of the musicians was jostled, and fell on to the table of other guests, a group of five Italians," said a police spokesman. "As these people now attempted to get rid of their uninvited guest, there was a larger physical altercation with the Italians." Hotel staff called police, who arrested Gallagher, White, the band's DJ Phil Smith and two security guards. "One of the officers was kicked in the chest with full force by Liam Gallagher, the frontman of the band, and suffered minor injuries," police said. Injuries They were released after the band paid 100,000 euros (�64,000) bail, police have said. The band said in a statement: "Several members of Oasis and their entourage were the victims of an unprovoked attack by a group of youths in a Munich club last night, where they were during their European tour." It said the attackers fled before the police arrived. As well as breaking several teeth, Gallagher sustained facial injuries, according to the band's website. Songwriter and guitarist Noel Gallagher was in bed at the time, according to the band's spokesperson. |
