| Tuesday, 3 December, 2002, 07:05 GMT Oasis singer 'kicked policeman' ![]() On tour: Liam Gallagher in Stuttgart last week German police have said Oasis singer Liam Gallagher kicked an officer in the chest "with full force" during a fight in a Munich hotel. But the star will probably not face further charges after paying 100,000 euros (64,000) bail and being released, police have said. Gallagher was arrested along with drummer Alan White, the band's DJ Phil Smith and two security guards in the early hours of Sunday.
But according to police, the trouble started when a "physical altercation" broke out among the musicians at about 0200 local time (0100 GMT) . "In the course of this fight, one of the musicians was jostled, and fell on to the table of other guests, a group of five Italians," said a police spokesman. "As these people now attempted to get rid of their uninvited guest, there was a larger physical altercation with the Italians." The band's security staff and hotel workers broke up the fight, but it continued outside, police said.
"One of the officers was kicked in the chest with full force by Liam Gallagher, the frontman of the band, and suffered minor injuries." The five men were accused of dangerous bodily harm, resisting police, damage to property and disturbing the peace. The police added that the arrested men were given blood tests on the grounds of their drunken state. 'Conditions' The Munich state attorney applied for custody warrants against the arrested men, but the warrants were suspended "under conditions", police said.
If there is a prosecution, Gallagher could face two years in prison and the bail money could be kept as a fine. The band said in a statement: "Several members of Oasis and their entourage were the victims of an unprovoked attack by a group of youths in a Munich club last night, where they were during their European tour." It said the attackers fled before the police arrived, and members of the group, including Gallagher, were questioned and later released. As well as breaking several teeth, Gallagher sustained facial injuries, according to the band's website. It is not known whether drummer White was injured. Noel Gallagher was in bed at the time, according to the band's spokesperson. Front teeth Sunday's concert in Munich has been postponed, and a later statement said Monday's show in Hamburg also had to be called off. "Tonight's show in Hamburg... has been postponed while Liam has further dental work to repair his two front teeth," it said. The shows would be rescheduled shortly, it added. Oasis kicked off the European leg of their world tour in November and are due to play in the UK this month. In August this year, the group postponed a number of sell-out shows in the US after Noel Gallagher, bass player Andy Bell and keyboard player Jay Darlington were injured in a head on car crash. | See also: 28 Nov 02 | Entertainment 15 Apr 02 | Entertainment 05 Oct 01 | Entertainment 07 Aug 02 | Entertainment Top Entertainment stories now: Links to more Entertainment stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
