Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are to headline a tribute concert in memory of George Harrison, it has been announced.

The concert at the Albert Hall in London will take place on the one-year anniversary of the death of the former Beatle in November.

It will feature a mix of Harrison's own music and his favourite songs.

Eric Clapton will host the concert, which will also feature musician Jools Holland, US rock star Tom Petty and Indian sitar performer Ravi Shankar.

Stars of the comedy series Monty Python's Flying Circus have also agreed to take part.

Harrison's widow Olivia said: "The tribute for George will resound not only within the Albert Hall but hopefully reach the spirit of the man so loved by his friends who will be performing and attending."

Proceeds will go to the Material World Charitable Foundation, which Harrison funded.

The foundation supports other charities worldwide particularly those working with children and the poor.

Harrison died of cancer on 29 November in Los Angeles aged 58, with his wife and son Dhani by his side.

A spokeswoman for the Royal Albert Hall said Bob Dylan was a "possible" act as well.

Harrison joined Dylan, Petty and Roy Orbison in forming the band The Travelling Wilburys in the 1980s.

Harrison died nearly 21 years after John Lennon was shot and killed outside his New York City apartment.
