| Wednesday, 25 September, 2002, 12:05 GMT 13:05 UK Moyles hits half-million mark ![]() Moyles' live show was launched on Monday Chris Moyles' new nightly show for Five pulled in 500,000 viewers on Tuesday night - a slight improvement on Monday's launch audience of 400,000. The audience was Tuesday's lowest on terrestrial TV for the 1900 timeslot, representing 2.6% of available viewers, only just beating a programme last Tuesday about cathedral art. Five had launched the laddish talk show with much fanfare, including a poster campaign. A repeat showing at 0030 pulled in just 100,000 people - half the audience for BBC Two's Open University at the same time.
'Disenfranchised males' Five's head of sponsorship Jonathan Lewis said the programme promised to be "a great show - topical, engaging and very funny". Broadcast live and set in a bar in King's Cross, London, the show is the brainchild of Chris Evans, who said the programme was aimed at what he called "disenfranchised young males" who are not attracted by early evening TV. It bears many similarities to Evans' old Channel 4 show TFI Friday, axed in 2001 after being dubbed outdated by critics. Live With Chris Moyles even uses the same music to illustrate items - the Gallery theme from 1970s children's show Vision On. Tuesday's biggest audience-puller was BBC One's EastEnders, with 11.2m viewers - a 52.7% share of viewing. It was followed by Emmerdale on ITV1 with 7.9m viewers - a 41.3% share - in the same timeslot as Live With Chris Moyles. The unofficial overnight figures also show 5.6m people - a 25.3% share - saw Manchester United's 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on ITV1. | See also: 23 Sep 02 | Entertainment 25 Sep 02 | Entertainment 29 Aug 02 | Entertainment 25 Aug 02 | Entertainment 14 Jul 02 | Entertainment 08 Aug 02 | Entertainment 07 Jul 02 | Entertainment Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Entertainment stories now: Links to more Entertainment stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
