A �200 "temporary facelift" is being offered on British high streets for the first time.

Forehead wrinkle-reducing botox injections are being offered at branches of Boots in London, Manchester and Milton Keynes from Friday.

Normally the preserve of the rich and famous, people will be able to fit in the beauty treatment in their lunch hour.

Critics say the treatments - which involve injecting the poison botulin into wrinkles - should be carried out in professional clinics.

Nicola: 'If it works it's worth it'

Botox, which is also known as botulinus toxin, is one of the world's deadliest poisons.

The injections are popular in Hollywood and Sir Cliff Richard admits he has used them to fight the ageing process.

The treatment works by paralysing the facial muscles that make wrinkles.

The result is not permanent and top-up injections are needed every few months.

Doctors have warned the treatment can lead to complications in some people, including a droopy eyebrow, a weeping eye or difficulty with facial expressions.

But Boots customers in London's Oxford Street welcomed having the chance to try a the treatment with such an exclusive image themselves.

Receptionist Nicola Clack said she would consider having it done but she would have to get over her fear of injections first.

"As long as it's a doctor who's doing it and it works, I think �200 is worth it," the 25-year-old from Blexley Heath in Kent said.

Peggy McGuigan, 58, said the treatment "should be available on the high street".

But she had concerns about the long term health affects.

"I'd like to see what it's like 10 years down the road," she said.

Meanwhile travel consultant Karen Moore said the fact that the treatment was available in Boots, gave it a ring of safety.

"Boots is a good name," the 30-year-old from Welling in Kent said. "I'd only worry it would hurt."

The procedure itself takes 10 minutes and at Boots will be administered by doctors with a minimum of nine years' experience.

Customers will also be able to get lip enhancements from �230 and facial contouring, where hyaluronic acid is injected around the mouth to smooth out lines, from �180.

But some professionals said the treatment should be reserved for hospitals.

Clive Orton, president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, told the paper: "I think it is stepping beyond the line of beauty treatments into a medical area that I have severe doubts it should be involved in."
