Rider dies in classic bike race

A motorcyclist from Pembrokeshire has died competing in a seniors race at the Manx Grand Prix on the Isle of Man.

John Goodall, 67, from Bletherston, near Haverfordwest, suffered chest and rib injuries when he lost control of his bike on the opening lap on Monday.

He had been a regular competitor in the event since 1983.

Race organisers, the Manx Motor Cycle Club, said Mr Goodall was an experienced rider and expressed "sincere sympathy to his family."

Just days before the race, Mr Goodall, an engineer, received the Spirit of the Manx award for his support for the competition.

A photograph of him appeared on the front cover of the MGP programme.

A spokesperson for the organisers said: "He was an experienced rider, winning the 1983 classic senior race and having been awarded 40 replicas during his Manx grand prix career.

"The Manx Motor Cycle Cycle Club wishes to express its sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Mr Goodall."
