Swansea celebrate after their 2-1 win over Carlisle on Sunday |
Around 30,000 Swansea City fans celebrated at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on Sunday after the Football League Trophy final win over Carlisle. Traffic problems failed to materialise before the game, as rail services between Swansea and Bridgend were cancelled due to engineering works.
A crowd of 42,028 attended the match, which Swansea won 2-1.
Five Swansea fans were arrested, four for public order offences and one for being drunk inside the stadium.
Officers said they were pleased with the way the operation had gone.
Dozens of coaches travelled from Swansea along the M4 for the match at the Millennium Stadium.
South Wales Police promised a "strong presence" along the route.
There has been criticism of the signalling works coinciding with the final, but rail bosses say these had been planned for two years.
The weekend also coincided with the cost of park-and-ride facilities for football matches rising in Cardiff, from 5 to 10 per car.
More than 26,000 tickets were sold by Swansea while around 15,000 fans from League Two leaders Carlisle made a round-trip of nearly 600 miles.
Roadworks had finished ahead of schedule at junction 39 of the M4, with a 50mph limit, easing problems.
The Official Swans Travel Club had booked 50 coaches, with others booked privately.
"Quite a lot of pubs and clubs are running their own coaches too, putting breakfasts on before they leave," said a travel club spokesman.

A spokesman for Cardiff Council advised fans from both teams to plan their journeys carefully, use public transport and car share if possible.
Matchday road closures operated in the city centre until 1730 BST on Sunday.
There were some replacement buses from Swansea for rail passengers who had bought tickets in advance.
Arriva Trains Wales said half hourly trains would also run from Bridgend to Cardiff, with an option to park and ride there.
