Wrexham fans sing in the rain
Wrexham players celebrate
Players soaked up the applause on their bus ride through Wrexham
Thousands of football fans lined the streets of Wrexham to mark the promotion of the town's football team to Division Two despite torrential rain.

Players and directors travelled through the town in an open top bus cheered by their supporters.

They were taken to a civic reception hosted by the Mayor of Wrexham where the promotion trophy was presented to players Brian Carey and Darren Ferguson.

In his speech, manager Denis Smith thanked the fans for their tremendous support during the season.

The Dragons secured their promotion late last month after a 5-0 victory over Cambridge.

Few fans cared about the weather as they turn out for their heroes
They stretched their unbeaten run to six games to pull clear of the play-off zone and join Rushden and Diamonds and Hartlepool in automatic promotion.

The celebration on Saturday came the day after Smith announced his retained squad list for next season.

Three players have been told they will be released.

They are Kristian Rogers, Dan Bennett and Wayne Phillips.

Hector Sam and Steve Thomas have been placed on the transfer list.
