Wrexham's success has stopped Smith retiring |
Wrexham boss Denis Smith says he is very of proud of his side as they booked their spot in Division Three with a 5-0 victory over Cambridge.
The Dragons stretched their unbeaten run to six games to pull clear of the play-off zone and join Rushden and Diamonds and Hartlepool in automatic promotion.
"We have grown into a very useful side and I am delighted," Smith said.
"It is great to finish the job in front of a home crowd, we have given them good entertainment.
Smith, who has been in charge for 18 months, is confident Wrexham will take the step up in class in their stride.
"The lads have enjoyed what has happened this season," said Smith.
"If we can keep them together as a squad and add a little bit, I think we will do well."
Coach Kevin Russell echoed Smith's sentiments, delighted with Wrexham's display against Cambridge.
The Red Dragons came out of the blocks quickly and grabbed three goals in six minutes to put victory beyond doubt.
"It was a pressure game for us but the lads were absolutely brilliant," said Russell.
"The way we have played in the last month or so has been quality.
"The side have been a pleasure to coach."
