Carlos Edwards scored the first of three goals |
Promoted Wrexham signed off from Division Three with a comprehensive win at Gigg Lane, their eighth successive victory. Bury must try and gain promotion through the play-offs and rested several key players ahead of their semi-final match.
The result was almost a foregone conclusion from the moment Carlos Edwards drilled in a low shot for his 10th goal of the season after just seven minutes.
Their best effort was a shot from player-boss Andy Preece, which Brian Carey blocked.
Andy Dibble made a key save from Jon Newby at the start of the second period.
But after 57 minutes Wrexham doubled their advantage when defender Danny Swailes scored a headed own goal following a cross from Andy Morrell.
And much to the delight of their large following, Darren Ferguson received a defence splitting pass from Lee Trundle and tidily converted.
After the game Wrexham manager Denis Smith was delighted with the result.
"I'm really pleased how the season has finished," he said.
"I am a little disappionted that we didn't win the championship because at times I thought that we were the best side in this league.
"But we have had a good crack at it and I cant ask for anything more that.
"We've got at party tonight and then we start preparing for the Welsh Cup final against Newport County. It would be great to end the season by picking up a trophy."
